Sun-filled, elegantly appointed 1910 farmhouse on 15
lovely acres with barn, paddocks, gardens and woods. 4
guest rooms with amenities such as whirlpool tubs,
flowers, exquisite linens, feather beds, early morning
coffee in the library, and a sumptuous breakfast in the
dining room or on the porch. Perfect respite from urban
stress. Conveniently located 1 mile from James Madison’s
Montpelier.
Westwood was
an operating farm in the Robert Dabney Browning family
up through the mid 1900’s. Mr. Browning’s daughter,
Mildred Berkeley and her husband Colonel Robert Lee
Rodgers, a history instructor at Woodberry Forest School
lived on the farm during summer vacation. Since 2004
Elizabeth Goeke & Jay Billie have worked to reclaim the
abandoned gardens and are slowly bringing Westwood back
to a small working farm. During the growing seasons
breakfast includes many ingredients picked from the
Inn’s gardens.
Concierge
service is a signature of the Inn. Whether your
interests are history, wineries, antiques, art, food,
agriculture, running or sky diving, we can assist you in
planning your activities. Picnic lunches
may be arranged
for guests so your touring day may continue at a
leisurely pace.
The innkeepers
have blended antique furniture with contemporary
furnishings and art to complement this 1910 farmhouse.
The simplicity of the original home is one the owners
have worked to maintain while renovating the Inn. The
interiors were designed with soft warm colors to instill
an ambiance of relaxation and comfort.
Slip into the
cool ironed Egyptian cotton sheets and goose down duvet
on a featherbed. Read yourself to sleep with a
fascinating book on James Madison that you borrowed from
the Inn’s library. Find a quiet spot in the woods in one
of the outside seating areas or on the porch to relax
while taking in the fragrance of lavender and rosemary
from the surrounding gardens. Afternoon tea, wine and
light appetizers are served each day at 4:30pm.
Traditional
games of croquet, horseshoes and badminton are available
on the property. Benches built for two and Adirondack
chairs dot the magnificent landscape and wooded paths.
Guests may take in the gorgeous sunset over the Blue
Ridge Mountains from one of the many outdoor seating
areas or during a walk around the property.
